Why WordPress should be your first choice for starting a blog

WordPress has been my first thought for making any possible type of website whether it be a blog or a e-commerce site. Do you want to start a Blog? If yes then you are in the right place as here in this article I am writing about the main reasons why to choose wordpress to start a blog. But the basic assumption that wordpress can only be used for writing blogs is wrong. It’s a very powerful Content Management System which allows user to practically make any type of website like :

  • Business Website
  • Ecommerce Website just like Amazon or Flipkart
  • Auction Marketplace and many more

Today WordPress powers almost 22.5% of all the websites on internet. The most important reason for it is its popularity and user-friendly CMS.

Now let’s see the reasons why WordPress should be your first choice for blogs –

WordPress is free and easy to install and run –

Free things always attract us 🙂

WordPress is absolutely free and this is the best thing about it. You can download wordpress from here and easily install and use it. Here is a complete step by step guide to install wordpress.

For running a wordpress website all you need is a domain name and web hosting. Read here about what is domain and hosting.

It is open source –

WordPress is an open source CMS and is popular world wide. It means you are free to edit, modify and alter codes according to you.

One click install –

Most hosting service providers provide a option to install wordpress in one click in Cpanel. This take less than a minute to install and then you are good to go.

For those who are not aware about cpanel

–  Cpanel  is a web based control panel provided by web hosting companies to their website owners to easily manage their website. It is a full featured tool which gives you complete control of your server and the files of your website and used for website development.

It is easily customisable –

You have full access to its source code so if you have knowledge of coding you can transform your website according to you.

For a non coder wordpress has an option inside appearance ->customise option , where you can easily customise your theme as you like. Some themes might offer a separate option in WordPress menu from where you can directly customise the different features provided by the theme.

Free themes and plugins –

WordPress provides thousands of free themes and plugins for extending operations  and support of your website. You can use these themes to edit your website and make it look stunning and beautiful easily. You don’t have to write long codes for adding any general  functionality to your website. Plugins will do this for you .

This is the reason why any non technical person can also make a beautiful website using wordpress. Themes will do the work of making your website look good and plugins will provide the required functionality to the website.

Mobile optimised –

WordPress websites are mobile optimised. Almost every theme available are responsive in nature so you don’t have to worry about designing separate website for different devices.  Using a responsive theme will make sure that you website will look good in every device.

Today responsive nature of website is given more importance due to rising mobile phone users. Mobile based web traffic is increasing and account for more than 70% of the readers of a blog. So if your current blog or website doesnot support this, you are losing a large chunk of your reader base and Its high time you move towards platform like WordPress to do the magic.

Built in feature of blogging –

Since we are talking about the blogging website, it is important to consider that WordPress has built in feature for editing and publishing your blog. It is also very simple. There is a option posts -> add new in menu , by clicking that you have to simply add title and contents of the blog and publish it.

add post in wordpress blog weboftwoYou can also edit fonts, add media files etc through the editor provided by them. Its interface is very simple so that anyone can understand and use it. WordPress will handle everything related to it.

Easy to manage your blogs regularly –

You don’t need to hire any developer for regularly updating and managing your blog. May be you have hired someone for designing your blog , but you don’t need to hire him in future just for regular updates  . You can do it by yourself.

This is why WordPress is the first choice of people for running a blog while having zero knowledge of coding.

WordPress makes SEO easily –

SEO ( Search Engine Optimization ) is one of the important thing to keep in mind for blogs.  This is something which helps you to show your blogs on top of google search list and as a result increase traffic on your blog. WordPress makes this very easy to do this in no time by providing free plugins. You don’t have to be an SEO expert to optimize your blog. By customizing some settings in these plugins you can easily achieve great results.

It automatically converts your new posts and page URLs to search engine friendly  URLs  that describes about your blog content.

Plugins for social media integration –

For advertising your blog, you will need it to connect to social media as it is one of the best way for online marketing. Using plugins available in WordPress you can easily integrate social media sharing buttons on your blog which will again help you to increase traffic on your website.

It also makes it easy for users to subscribe to your content using RSS (Really Simple Syndication ) feeds.

It can handle different media types –

Analyses your blog performance –

Sharing and commenting functionality of blog can make you interact more with your readers. You can analyze whether your readers are enjoying your contents or not. This feature of WordPress makes you monitor your readers. You can also reject or delete any comment easily if you think it is a spam or inappropriate for your website.

You can also add contact form and even live chat feature easily for better communication purpose.

It allows integration with Google analytic or other analytic plugins which help to track your monthly/daily unique visitors and their activities which will help you to know which content to add and modify accordingly.

Send automatic notifications –

WordPress also sends automatic notification to your email whenever you get a new comment or subscriber on your blog along with sending notifications about new post to your subscribers too.

Easy to Learn –

The last and most important thing, WordPress is very easy to learn. You can learn the basics of it and make a simple website in a day also.

I am telling this from my experience. In the first internship that I got after landing into web development career, the first task was to make a WordPress website. Literally I was not aware anything about it except the fact that some WordPress technology exist. In spite of that I took the work and completed the basic structure in a day. And yes, took some more time to give it a finished look.

Second reason why it is so is that you don’t need any prior coding knowledge or expertise to get into this. Everything can be done by just clicking a button. This is the beauty of CMS and as I have told you wordpress is the most popular CMS used today.

Large Support Base –

You don’t have to walk alone in this journey of learning. As WordPress is open source so its community is also very large. There are many online tutorials and articles available online. Most probably every problem you will face will have a solution available online. You just have to google it. StackOverflow and WpBeginner are the two communities which will be your friend in need.

Safe and Secure –

WordPress is developed by keeping security risks in mind so it is secure and safe to use it. There are many plugins which can do this for you . It is also very easy to keep and schedule backup of your website to keep it safe and make restoration of your website quick and easy.

So this was a detailed reasoning for using WordPress to

Start a blog

I have covered all the important reasons why you should go for wordpress for your blog. If you still have any confusion regarding using WordPress as your tool to start your blog, I would suggest you to just go for it, It will not be disappointing!
