Hope you all are doing well. Today we are very excited to introduce you to the most important concept of Blogging – Search Engine Optimization – SEO.
When we declared that we have plans to earn a minimum of 500$ per month with this new blog – Teaddicted.com, we were planning to use SEO as our sole weapon to fill our wallets with 500$ each month that too without lifting a finger on that blog after 2 months.
Yes, you heard it right! SEO is so much powerful, yet so simple and mysterious at the same time. Most bloggers just keep writing articles in their whole career by making a huge mistake of not optimizing their site for search engines which deprives them of a lot of daily traffic from our neighborhood friend GOOGLE.
For a great impression on GOOGLE your blog must:
- Be responsive (to look perfect in computer as well as mobile)
- Be easy to read ( font-size and color is readable )
- Be filled with relevant information according to the used keyword. Suppose you bombed your article with a keyword – free e-book but your article contains nothing excluding advertisements – sounds familiar right? Google penalizes these type of websites. Now the question arises how will Google know that we are using this strategy. Fact is Google’s algorithm will predict this situation due to the high bounce rate the website will receive.
Bounce rate is a factor that decides what action is taken by any user when they visit your website. Whether they are going to some other page or just leaving or bouncing back from your website. It is determined by just the time any user is spending on our website.
( Bounce rate is high when users visit and exit your website in a very short period of time, i.e in 2-5 seconds )
- Be regularly updated. Google loves new information, so make sure to update your blog regularly.
If your blog is compliant with the above conditions, then you have already done 50% of the work.
If you remember we asked you to prepare a list of keywords in Day 1 of 60 Days Blogging Challenge. That was asked for optimizing your articles for the search engine. We will soon come to the part where we will guide you how to exploit your researched keywords for ranking your articles on the first page of Google.
Step 1) Install Yoast:
Now for setting up SEO in your blog, you first need to install and activate a plugin name “Yoast Seo” If you have already done that no need to redo it.
Step 2) Sign Up for Google Search Console:
You need to setup a search console account for your Blog with google. This article on “How To Add Your Website To Google Search Console” by Yoast explains everything in detail. You can follow the steps laid out there.
Step 3)Configuration Wizard:
You will see an option named ‘SEO‘ coming in the left menu of the admin panel. Click it and there you will see an option of running a configuration wizard. Click on that option. It will take you through an easy to understand wizard to optimize your blog according to the Search Engine standards.
It will take you to a wizard. Click on Configure Yoast Seo.
Now we have shared the options which we chose according to the relevancy of our blog. You need to chose the option best suited for your Blog.
We have gone live so we selected the option to index our website with Google.
We all are making a Blog here so choosing Blog is obvious.
We will be operating as a company so we chose Company.
We filled this window with our social profiles. You have to fill those boxes in which your blog has social profiles.
We wanted all to be listed on Google so we opted yes in all the boxes.
Our will be a single author Blog so we opted for ‘No’.
Now we asked you to create a search console account. This is where it will be helpful. Click on Get authorization code and select your Gmail account from the popup. After selecting you will get an authorization code which you need to copy and paste in the box available below and click next.
Now you have to select your website from the drop-down.
We always use ‘|’ as it feels more readable than other options.
Now click next in all the coming sections. It’s up to you if you want to subscribe to their newsletters.
The configuration has been finished successfully.
Step 4: Create Robots.txt file:
Robots.txt file is very crucial for your website. Basically, it’s the communicating mechanism between your website and google crawler. It communicates which parts of your website will be crawled and indexed by Google and which part will be not.
Go to Seo -> Tools in the left menu 0f admin panel.
Click on file editor.
Click on create robots.txt file.
Now you have created your robots.txt file. Don’t modify it unnecessarily, as editing it unknowingly may result in disrupting communication between your website and Google.
So your Blog is now compliant with latest SEO standards. Your website will be indexed in the next 24 hours and will be visible in Google searched for relevant keywords.
This was all for today. Tomorrow we will publish our very first article on our blog and teach you how to start and publish your first article too.
