Today at Day 21 of 60 Days Blogging Challenge, we are rebounding again at the heart of your Blog – CONTENT.
We keep coming back to this area of blogging to ensure that you never forget the number 1 rule of Blogging: “Content is the KING”.
We know that publishing quality content regularly is a pain in the ass for everyone.
But all the pain goes all in vain when you fail to appeal your readers to read the whole article. This is the area where most Bloggers struggle for their whole writing career.
So today we have outlined 5 Amazing Insights to make your readers Glued to the Article
1) Understanding your readers
Screen readers are different than Book readers.
Screen readers usually want to:
- Come in
- Read the part they want
- Get out
and all this happens in a matter of 10 sec to 1 minute of time frame.
1) Readers are actually Scanners
A good Blogger knows and accepts that 80% of the readers actually read 20% of the whole article and leave.
Most article writers write a ton of bullshit at the start and end of the article and slowly lay down the main point of the article after writing 50% of the article. This practice works great for Books but not for articles.
Readers follow a pyramid pattern of reading where they first read the top two sentences and then cut the focus of reading way down.
So make sure to give the best points or content of the article at the beginning instead of at the end.
2) Know about the F shaped reading pattern
As research by Jakob Nielsen,
Readers tend to read in F shaped pattern.
• At first the reader reads across horizontally (like thе top line оf thе F)
• Next, thеу go down а bit аnd read асrоѕѕ for a bit shorter distance (like thе 2nd, shorter line оf F)
• At last, they swipe down the left side of the webpage (like thе F’s tail )
for detailed analysis visit Jakob Nielsen’s article.
To make your article attractive, stuff important information at the left side of the article.
Transform important information into
- Bulleted points
- Headings or
- Overlay the information over a stunning image
Do the same for 4-5 lines of the article. Give the most amount of time and focus to craft this area.
3) Readers just love white space
If your text is crammed and jammed up without spaces and line breakers, chances are your readers will
- Feel claustrophobic
- Leave and visit other website which is easier to follow and read.
If we take reference to Neil Patel’s blog, his every line has a line break between them.
No doubt that he’s a blogging genius.
4) Readers love images and graphics
Give your readers a break from the text and gift their eyes with attractive and relevant images or infographics or charts.
Insights show that people spend a lot of time gazing images and graphics when reading an article.
So use it like a weapon to keep your readers engaged.
5) Keep your sentences short and clear
Readers love clear vocabulary and short sentences.
Always remember to keep it Simple and Straightforward.
Janice (Ginny) Redish wrote in her one of the book called Letting Go оf thе Words: Writing Web Content thаt Works (Interactive Technologies) :-
Get rid оf unnecessary words, keep thе sentences short, аnd get tо уоur point quickly!
This is a priceless advice. More words are not equal to more conversions. Clear аnd meaningful words equal to more conversions.
Your readers come hunting for value, so your motto should be to give them your value in a straightforward way.
